Sport Club Roundup — May 7, 2018

Tennis

The WashU tennis club competed at the USTA Tennis On Campus National Championships April 12-15 in Orlando, Fla. WashU went 5-2 in the tournament and finished 25th overall for the second-best finish in program history. WashU picked up wins over Chattanooga, Villanova, Texas, Texas A&M and Georgia Tech and suffered losses to Michigan and Yale. Luke Foreman had a standout tournament for WashU, winning all of his matches by a score of 6-2 or better and dethroning a former national champion singles player. 

Women's Volleyball

The WashU women's volleyball club competed in the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Nationals April 12-14 in St. Louis. The Bears went 5-4 in the tournament and finished 15th out of 36 teams in the Women's IAAA Division. WashU picked up wins over Albany, Dallas, Georgia State, Cleveland State and Towson and lost to Virginia Commonwealth, Boise State, Alabama and Xavier.

Men's Volleyball

The WashU men's volleyball club competed in the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Nationals April 12-14 in St. Louis. The Bears battled their way into the Gold Bracket where they fell to defending champion Saint Louis. WashU finished the tournament in ninth place. 

Gymnastics

The WashU gymnastics club competed in the NAIGC Nationals April 13-14 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Figure Skating

The WashU figure skating club competed in the US Figure Skating Intercollegiate Championships April 13-15 in Denver, Colo. WashU tied for eighth place overall.

Badminton

The WashU badminton club competed at the Purdue Spring Badminton Open April 14-15 in Lafayette, Ind. Annie Zhou and Jim Meier won mixed B doubles to lead WashU while Aaron Sun and Alan Wang placed second in men's C doubles.

Women's Lacrosse

The WashU women's lacrosse club played Saint Louis University to a 6-6 tie on April 15 at South Campus Field.

WashU also competed in the Spring 2018 NFHL Tournament April 20-22 in Virginia Beach, Va. The Bears went 1-1-1 in its group, just missing out on advancing to bracket play. WashU picked up a 3-2 win over Salisbury University, tied Drexel 1-1 and suffered a 1-0 loss to East Carolina.

Men's Ultimate

The WashU men's ultimate club "Contra" competed inthe Ozarks DI College Men's Conference Championships April 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark. Contra finished third in the event with wins over Missouri, Arkansas State, Kansas State, Saint Louis and Oklahoma State. WashU's B squad "Contraband" went 1-5 in the event with a win over Kansas B and losses to Saint Louis, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas State and Central Arkansas.

Contra's performance at conference helped secure a spot at the South Central Regional Championships April 28-29 in Tulsa, Okla. Contra finished ninth in the region after going 1-3 in the tournament. WashU defeated Denver and suffered loses to Texas, Texas State and Colorado State.  

Rowing

The WashU rowing club competed in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships April 21 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. WashU's men's varsity pair team highlighted the event by taking home first place while the men's varsity four came in second, the women's varsity four took fifth, the men's varsity double took ninth, the women's novice four took 10th and the men's novice four took 23rd. 

Baseball

The WashU baseball club won two out of three games in a series against Augustana College April 21-22 in St. Louis. The Bears won the first two games 4-1 and 16-1 before suffering a 6-4 loss in the final game. Pete Koulogoerge pitched a complete game, surrendering only one earned run to win the series opener.

Women's Water Polo

The women's water polo club competed in the Midwest Conference Championships April 21-22 in South Bend, Ind. WashU went 1-2 in the tournament with a 9-2 win over Illinois State and losses to Lindenwood (22-2) and Grand Valley State (19-2). The Bears concluded their 2018 season ranked fourth out of 10 teams in the conference. Gaolie Hayley Clocksin highlighted the weekend with 23 saves while Sara Davis and Eleni Kokinos each scored three goals and Natalie Goldman chipped in five steals.

Triathlon

The WashU triathlon club competed at the USA Triathlon Collegiate Nationals April 27 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. WashU came in 36th out of 106 teams overall for the program's highest-ever team finish. WashU also finished first amonth Division III universities and fourth among private universities. Katherine Velicki had WashU's highest finish with a 76th-place finish in the women's race while Tamara Sanchez Ortiz came in 200th and Hanna Acton came in 226th. On the men's side, Zach Jaeger came in 118th while Sean Fallon finished 200th and Caleb Wolters finished 239th. 

Women's Ultimate

The WashU women's ultimate club "WUWU" competed in the Ozarks Division 1 Women's Collegiate Club Sectionals April 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark. WUWU's A squad "Iron Horse" won the tournament and earned a spot in regionals after defeating Arkansas, Kansas State, Missouri State, Kansas B, Saint Louis, and Kansas. WUWU's B squad "Locamotive" finsihed 10th.

Iron Horse advanced to the South Central DI College Women's Regionals April 28-29 in Tulsa, Okla. Iron Horse came in third at Regionals after picking up wins over Texas State, Kansas, Texas Christian, Colorado State and Colorado College.
